School & Sports Physicals at Baptist Health Urgent Care Express

Most visits take less than an hour, depending on wait times and whether additional testing is needed.

Bring any required school or sports forms, a photo ID (if available), insurance card (if applicable) and a list of medications or medical history.

If possible, we recommend bringing any required school or sports forms to your visit. If you don’t have them yet, your child can still receive a physical, and our team will help guide you through what may still be needed for school or sports participation.

Your child may or may not need a separate school physical and sports physical, depending on where they attend school. Ask your school administrator if they require a separate sports physical. You may also need a separate sports physical if your athlete is playing a sport not connected to their school.

Some schools or athletic programs may require or recommend an EKG before a student can participate in sports. Requirements may vary based on school policies, medical history or state guidelines, including the Second Chance Act.

If an EKG is needed, Baptist Health Urgent Care Express can often complete the physical and EKG during the same visit, making the process easier and more convenient for families.

Requirements can vary. In Florida, a school-entry physical is generally required when a child first enrolls in a Florida school and must have been completed within the previous year. Sports physicals are typically required each year before an athlete can participate. Check with your child’s school, athletic program or sports organization to confirm its specific requirements.

Not necessarily. Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, Florida requires an EKG screening for incoming ninth graders and student-athletes in grades 10–12 who are participating for the first time. Returning athletes may not need another EKG every year unless their school, athletic program or healthcare provider requires one. Check with your child’s school, sports team or athletic program to confirm what’s needed before the season begins.
