Frequently Asked Questions

  • Seek immediate medical attention any time you or a loved one experience serious symptoms or a life-threatening health issue. Don’t hesitate to get emergency care if you’re unsure how serious the condition is. Always seek emergency care for these problems:

    • Chest pain or pressure
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Loss of consciousness
    • Severe bleeding or injury
    • Sudden, severe headache or vision changes
    • Weakness or numbness on one side of your body

  • Our emergency rooms are fast-paced environments that are designed to give you quick, effective care. When you arrive, our staff will greet you and ask questions about your condition and medical history. This process, called triage, helps us decide which patients need medical attention first.

If your condition is less urgent than other patients, you may be asked to sit in our waiting room. How long you wait will depend on the number of patients who have more serious health issues. Please understand that our doctors and nurses work as quickly and carefully as possible to ensure all patients get the best care.

We ask that you and your loved ones stay in the waiting area while you wait for care.

  • Bring your driver’s license or other identification and your insurance card (if you have insurance) with you when you come to the emergency room. You should also bring any medications you’re currently taking and a list of your health conditions and allergies. A favorite comfort item, such as a blanket or hoodie, can also help you or a loved one feel more at ease while you wait for care. And, if you can, we recommend having someone who can offer additional support come with you.

  • Yes. All Baptist Health Emergency Rooms are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including weekends and holidays. You will always have access to emergency care whenever you need it.

  • Yes. If your condition requires ongoing care, our Emergency Room providers can refer you directly to a Baptist Health specialist and share your visit information to ensure continuity of care. This makes it easier to transition from emergency treatment to the follow-up care you need.

  • Yes. All Baptist Health Emergency Rooms are equipped with advanced imaging technology, including CT scans, X-rays, and ultrasounds. Having these services on-site allows providers to quickly diagnose serious conditions such as fractures, strokes, or internal injuries and begin treatment without delay.

  • Yes. With digital check-in, you can select your arrival time and begin the check-in process before you get to the Emergency Room. This helps shorten wait times and ensures our care team is ready for you when you arrive.
