Support Groups, Events, and Community Programs
When you have the support of others, it’s easier to deal with cancer. Support groups can help you reduce anxiety and overcome feelings of helplessness.
Living with cancer is stressful. In some cases, the stress you experience may even contribute to tumor growth or spread of the disease. Support groups at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute offer people an effective way to deal with this stress. These groups may also help with the mental and emotional challenges that may occur during and after treatment.
Our support groups provide a safe environment where you can share your thoughts, fears and concerns about cancer with others who are going through similar experiences. According to the National Cancer Institute, research suggests participating in a support group may lead to a better quality of life, and in some cases, improve survival.
Professional social workers at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute lead a variety of cancer support groups in both English and Spanish. The groups focus on many different topics, including specific types and stages of cancer, treatment issues and common challenges. All of the groups offer participants emotional support.
