What are the symptoms of Wilms’ tumor?
Symptoms can vary but may include:
- A non-tender mass or lump in the belly
- Swelling of the belly
- Pain in the abdomen from pressure on other organs
- Decreased appetite
- Weakness or tiredness
- Nausea Constipation
- Fever
- High blood pressure
How is Wilms’ tumor diagnosed?
If a doctor thinks that your child may have Wilms’ tumor, your child will need medical testing to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best treatment options. This could include:
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Abdominal computed tomography (CT or CAT) scans
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Chest X-ray
- Blood and urine tests
- Biopsy, removing a small piece of the tumor while your child is under anesthesia
- Surgical removal of the tumor and kidney in some cases to determine the extent of the disease
