What are the symptoms of Wilms’ tumor?

Symptoms can vary but may include:

  • A non-tender mass or lump in the belly
  • Swelling of the belly
  • Pain in the abdomen from pressure on other organs
  • Decreased appetite
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Nausea Constipation
  • Fever
  • High blood pressure

How is Wilms’ tumor diagnosed?

If a doctor thinks that your child may have Wilms’ tumor, your child will need medical testing to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best treatment options. This could include:

  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Abdominal computed tomography (CT or CAT) scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Chest X-ray
  • Blood and urine tests
  • Biopsy, removing a small piece of the tumor while your child is under anesthesia
  • Surgical removal of the tumor and kidney in some cases to determine the extent of the disease
