Expert Cancer Care You Can Trust

At Lynn Cancer Institute, the TrueBeam Radiotherapy System enables our specialists to treat tumors with sub-millimeter precision, even in hard-to-reach locations or tumors as small as a pencil tip. This advanced technology delivers radiation quickly and accurately while protecting nearby healthy tissue.

Our Approach

Our Approach

We integrate TrueBeam’s real-time imaging with techniques like RapidArc® to deliver radiation from multiple angles in a single, smooth rotation. This helps reduce treatment time, improve precision, and keep you more comfortable during sessions. It is often used in tandem with the C-RAD® system which offers high precision patient position and real-time motion management.

What is TrueBeam Therapy?

TrueBeam is a next-generation external beam radiation system that combines high-speed imaging, beam shaping, and motion management. It can treat tumors anywhere in the body and is capable of both conventional and high-dose treatments like stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

When Is It Recommended?

TrueBeam can be used to treat:

  • Brain tumors
  • Breast cancer
  • Head and neck cancers
  • Liver tumors
  • Lung cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • …and more

It’s especially useful for tumors near vital organs or those requiring shorter treatment schedules.

Benefits and Risks

Benefits
  • Targets tumors with sub-millimeter precision
  • Shortens treatment times compared to older systems
  • Minimizes exposure to healthy tissue
  • Adaptable to a wide range of cancer sites and treatment needs
  • C-RAD® system allows real time motion management and will monitor respiratory motion during deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) treatments.
Risks

Possible side effects vary by treatment site and may include fatigue, mild skin changes, or localized swelling. Your care team will discuss specific risks for your plan.

What to Expect

  • Before treatment, you’ll have a planning session with imaging scans to map the tumor’s shape and position. Immobilization devices may be used to ensure perfect alignment.

  • You’ll lie comfortably while the TrueBeam system performs imaging, then delivers multiple targeted beams or carefully controlled arcs. Most sessions take 15–30 minutes.

  • Many patients return to normal activities immediately. You’ll have scheduled follow-ups to monitor your progress and address any side effects.
