In support of our Joint Commission certification and commitment to transparency, we proudly share key performance data with our community. Below, you will find the most recent statistics highlighting complication rates and outcomes for endovascular stroke procedures performed at Baptist Hospital.

Endovascular Stroke Thrombectomy

Stroke is a leading cause of disability in the United States, and time-sensitive treatment is critical. Endovascular thrombectomy is an advanced procedure used to remove blood clots from large arteries in the brain, restoring blood flow and minimizing damage. At Baptist Hospital, we are proud to achieve high rates of successful cerebral reperfusion following thrombectomy, with many patients treated within minutes of arterial access. In 2024, our rate of symptomatic hemorrhagic transformation following thrombectomy was just 1%, well within national safety benchmarks.

Carotid Artery Interventions

The carotid arteries supply blood to the brain, and narrowing or blockage in these vessels significantly increases the risk of stroke. At Baptist Hospital, patients with carotid artery disease may undergo carotid endarterectomy, carotid artery stenting or transcarotid artery revascularization based on their individual needs. Nationally, the expected 30-day complication rate for stroke or death following these procedures is less than 6% for symptomatic patients and less than 3% for asymptomatic patients. Our aggregate complication rate is 3.1%, consistently aligning with national benchmarks and reflecting our commitment to high-quality care and positive patient outcomes.

Data Sources: The data presented above for Baptist Hospital is derived from entries in national quality registries, including Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) and the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI). These are supplemented by national benchmarks published by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
