Epilepsy Program Accreditation
The Institute’s epilepsy program is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a level 3 epilepsy center, providing high-level medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.
Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Laboratory Accreditation
Miami Neuroscience Institute’s Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) Department received accreditation from the Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Laboratory Accreditation Board (LAB-NIOM) of ABRET. The accreditation recognizes the high standards and excellent results of Miami Neuroscience Institute’s IOM team, which provides support and feedback to surgeons aimed at preserving nerve function during complex and prolonged surgeries. The IOM Department is the first program in Florida, one of only 27 in the United States, and one of just 30 in the world to receive this accreditation.
Stroke Program Accreditations
Miami Neuroscience Institute is a Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Institute was also awarded the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Stroke achievement award for demonstrating a commitment to research-based guidelines for stroke treatment.

Michael McDermott, M.D.
Michael McDermott, M.D., is a neurosurgeon, the Irma & Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Clinical Neuroscience and the chief medical executive of Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. He is a world-renowned leader in neurosciences and has clinical expertise in the field of meningioma surgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.
Dr. McDermott is widely known for advancing neurosurgical techniques and is an expert in the treatment of a wide variety of neurological disorders. He is one of the world’s leading experts in meningioma, the most common primary brain tumor in adults.

The team at Miami Neuroscience Institute includes experts in a wide range of specialties, including neurosurgery, nonsurgical spine care and pain management, neuroradiology, interventional neuroradiology, neuro-oncology, radiation oncology and neurology. We also have neuro intensivists and rehabilitation specialists. Our board-certified neurosurgeons are fellowship trained in areas such as complex spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal oncology, cerebrovascular surgery, skull base surgery, endovascular surgery and more.
