Thomas Summers, D.O., Joins Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute as a Hematologist Oncologist

MIAMI, FL – September 2, 2025 – Board-certified hematologist oncologist Thomas Summers, D.O., has joined Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute and will see patients at the Institute’s new location in Key West, Florida. He diagnoses and treats patients with solid tumors and benign blood disorders, clotting disorders and lymphomas.

Dr. Summers has 25 years of experience in hematology oncology and has held staff and leadership positions at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Tennessee, Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth and Cleveland Clinic Florida.

After earning his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Dr. Summers completed a medical internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He served two years as a senior medical officer at the Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Virginia, and two years as a medical officer supporting the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Squadron. After finishing his military service, Dr. Summers completed an internal medicine residency, serving as chief resident, and a hematology/medical oncology fellowship in New Jersey at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in partnership with Jefferson Health.

Dr. Summers has experience as a clinical investigator at the National Cancer Institute. He is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and a member of several professional organizations.

Dr. Summers values the bonds he forms with patients and their families, whom he describes as his patients for life.  “I am excited to represent Miami Cancer Institute in Key West and provide patients with access to the best resources, clinical trials and support teams,” he said.
