January 13, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL – January 13, 2026 – The Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation recently welcomed guests to Lynn Cancer Institute for a ceremony and reception recognizing the Blackman Scholars Program. The event honored Dr. Youssef Zeidan, whose work reflects the innovation, commitment and clinical excellence that continue to advance patient care at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Research is supported through a philanthropic gift that established the Blackman Scholar Fund. The hospital is profoundly grateful to the estate of Richard Blackman for its generosity and foresight in supporting Lynn Cancer Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health. This contribution provides critical funding for Dr. Zeidan’s research. As Louise Morrell, M.D., Chief Medical Executive of Lynn Cancer Institute, notes, “The Blackman Scholar appointment is among the most distinguished honors at our institution, recognizing exceptional contributions to medical science while enabling continued innovation and service.”

Through the support of the Estate of Richard Blackman, the Blackman Scholar is empowered to pursue research with the potential to reshape the role of radiation therapy in breast cancer treatment – advancing more individualized, less invasive approaches to care.

“Dr. Zeidan’s work may offer certain patients a renewed opportunity for breast conservation following recurrence, potentially avoiding mastectomy through carefully targeted reirradiation,” said Mark Larkin, President of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation. “His research also seeks to better define which patients benefit most from postmastectomy radiation and which may safely forgo it, helping to minimize unnecessary treatment and side effects. Together, these insights could lead to more precise therapies and meaningful improvements in quality of life for breast cancer patients across multiple disease subtypes.”

Looking ahead, the Blackman Scholars Program will continue to deepen understanding of the scientific, structural and societal factors that influence health and disease, while equipping scholars to extend their impact well beyond the bedside.
