Radiation oncology treatment for cancer patients now available in Aruba
This month, Instituto Medico San Nicolas (ImSan) opened the first oncology radiation center in Aruba.
The center will provide the latest radiation oncology treatments, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for radiotherapy.
San Nicolas, Aruba (April 9, 2020) – Instituto Medico San Nicolas (ImSan) has announced the opening of the first radiation oncology center in Aruba, located within ImSan’s facilities. The center houses advanced technologies and offers the latest treatments in radiotherapy, allowing cancer patients to receive high-quality radiation oncology care without the need to travel abroad. Baptist Health International, part of Baptist Health South Florida, has worked with ImSan for a number of years, providing consulting services for the planning, construction and start-up of its expansion and renovation project, which included the development of the radiation oncology center.
“Now, more than ever, ensuring timely and quality care for oncology patients in Aruba is of the utmost importance. We are proud to have been part of this project and value the trust that ImSan has placed in us through this partnership,” said Rogelio E. Ribas, M.D., corporate vice president of Baptist Health International. “This is only the beginning, and we look forward to accompanying ImSan through this important journey in expanding the scope of healthcare services available on-island.”
As part of a long-standing collaboration between ImSan and Baptist Health International, ImSan’s radiation oncology department began treating patients on April 1. Miami Cancer Institute, also part of Baptist Health and one of the leading cancer institutes in the region, provides operational support services, including remote treatment planning, to ImSan’s radiation oncology team.
“We are extremely proud of this milestone that is already changing the lives of oncology patients in Aruba,” said Dr. Joel Rajnherc, director of Instituto Medico San Nicolas. “Baptist Health International has gone above and beyond to support us in this very important endeavor, and we hope to continue evolving our partnership to provide top-level patient care and improve our island’s healthcare.”
