Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Matthew Treiser, M.D., Ph.D., joins Miami Cancer Institute as Chief of Microsurgery and Extremity Reconstruction
“Dr. Treiser will make an excellent addition to Miami Cancer Institute,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., executive deputy director and chief medical officer at Miami Cancer Institute. “He is an accomplished plastic surgeon with additional specialized training in extremity reconstruction.”
Dr. Treiser joins Miami Cancer Institute from the Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. While there, he served as an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as hand and microsurgery.
An expert in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Treiser has participated in multiple hand transplant surgeries and was a member of the first penile transplant surgery performed in the United States.
His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, The Journal of Hand Surgery, The Journal of Wrist Surgery, Annals of Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. He holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering.
Dr. Treiser earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University. He completed his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Harvard Plastic Surgery Combined Residency Program, followed by a hand surgery fellowship at the Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Treiser will treat patients as part of Miami Cancer Institute’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Program. In addition, he will provide hand reconstructive services at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care at Doctor’s Hospital.
