Miami Cancer Institute Celebrates Successful Hosting and Completion of the 60th Annual Meeting of PTCOG

July 14, 2022

MIAMI, FL – July 14, 2022  – Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, served as the local host for the 60th PTCOG meeting, which focused on: “Optimization of Radiotherapy Modalities” at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Taking place from June 27 through July 2, 2022, the meeting focused on how particle therapy, and especially proton therapy is quickly becoming a more accessible and mainstream radio therapeutic modality.

“Proton radiotherapy is now a treatment option with a more defined space in multidisciplinary cancer care.

This encourages us to move forward from dosimetriv evaluations, case studies, and retrospective reports to well-conducted prospective clinical trials, with much higher levels of evidence backing up the value of this modality. It is exciting to know that we are producing real-world evidence demonstrating not only the clinical benefits but also the cost-effectiveness of our treatments,” shared Minesh Mehta, M.D., Deputy Director and Chief of Radiation Oncology at Miami Cancer Institute.

During the conference, attendees from across the world participated in discussions, debates, lectures, posters, and scientific presentations regarding advances in the field of particle beam radiotherapy. Baptist Health South Florida designated this as a live activity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, approved by the Florida Board of Medicine.

“At Miami Cancer Institute, we provide a comprehensive range of all major radiotherapy modalities and have effectively integrated them into a multidisciplinary clinical-trial oriented cancer matrix. This is representative of the robust integration of proton therapy into mainstream cancer management,” shared Michael Zinner, M.D., and Chief Executive Officer at Miami Cancer Institute. “It is a privilege to be the host of this year’s meeting and highlight the great work in radiation oncology aiding those in South Florida, and globally.”
