Miami Cancer Institute to Host Inaugural Precision Oncology Symposium
MIAMI, FL – January 9, 2023 – Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, announced it is hosting its inaugural Precision Oncology Symposium February 3-4, 2023, at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla. The educational symposium is designed to provide an overview about the most recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors – including lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, genitourinary tumors, head and neck tumors, melanoma, sarcoma, and brain tumors – with novel targeted agents and treatment combinations.
“We couldn’t be more excited to host the inaugural Miami Cancer Institute Precision Oncology Symposium here in South Florida,” said Manmeet Ahluwalia, M.D., M.B.A., the symposium’s director as well as Fernandez Family Foundation Endowed Chair In Cancer Research, Chief of Medical Oncology, Chief Scientific Officer, and Deputy Director of Miami Cancer Institute. “For the inaugural symposium the goal is to bring oncology leaders from around the country to Miami to discuss the latest advances in solid-tumor therapies with physicians in the South Florida community. Symposia like this one provide a unique opportunity to interact with key opinion leaders in the field, learn about the latest technologies, and connect with investigators leading the most cutting-edge clinical trials.”
Given the increase in the discovery of oncogenic-driven tumors over the past two decades, targeted treatments with novel agents have positively transformed the outcomes in cancer patients. However, clinical decision making and management have become more complex as a result. The Miami Cancer Institute Precision Oncology Symposium provides an opportunity for medical professionals to engage in thoughtful discussions with experts in these emerging fields in oncology.
“For the inaugural symposium we’ve invited key opinion leaders and oncologists who are on the cutting edge of cancer treatment from the most prestigious organizations across the nation,” said Ahluwalia. “They will summarize the evolving therapeutic strategies, provide updates on new molecular and targeted treatments, discuss the rationale for new targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, and review the role and timing of diagnostic tests, molecular profiling, and potential combinations of targeted therapy treatment options.”
The symposium is directed toward oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, palliative care staff, oncology, pharmacists, laboratory and other allied healthcare team members interested in the treatment of patients with solid tumor malignancies. Baptist Health South Florida is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Baptist Health has been re-surveyed by the ACCME and awarded Commendation for 6 years as a provider of CME for physicians. Participants of the Precision Medicine Symposium will be able to claim CME credits when attending the symposium.
