December 21, 2020

Dr. Darabant_headshotMIAMI – December 21, 2020 – Medical cardiologist Sergiu Darabant, M.D., has joined Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Darabant specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies. He also has extensive experience in cardiovascular imaging, critical care cardiology and advanced heart failure therapies. He is fluent in English and Romanian.

“We’d like to welcome Dr. Darabant to Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute,” said Jonathon Fialkow, M.D., deputy director of the Institute, chief of cardiology and co-medical director of the lipid management program. “His vast experience as a medial cardiologist and specialized training in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography will make him an excellent addition to our team.”

Dr. Darabant joins Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute from the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Under the mentorship of Dr. Marcus Stoddard, the president of the National Board of Echocardiography, he developed a special interest and training in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography imaging modalities. These techniques are used in evaluating cardiovascular disease and stroke patients. When used, the imaging is included as preprocedural evaluation of valvular heart disease, preparation for structural heart disease interventions and medical guidance to prevent recurring stroke.

His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Heart Valve Disease, the Journal of Hospital Medicine and ACC FIT Online. Dr. Darabant also was elected as an American College of Cardiology Fellow in Training (FIT) Editorial Fellow.

Dr. Darabant earned his medical degree from Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Louisville Hospital, where he served as chief fellow.

Dr. Darabant is part of the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute’s Cardiology Group. The team is composed of the most accomplished and respected professionals in their field. These top-tier physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants and clinical pharmacists work hand in hand to create a personalized approach for each and every patient. Because the cardiologists have expertise in a vast array of cardiology specialties, including advanced heart failure, cardio-oncology, clinical lipidology, resistant hypertension, vascular medicine and — coming soon — sports cardiology, they can focus on treating specific heart conditions with innovative solutions.

He will see patients at two Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute locations: 7400 SW 87 Avenue, Suite 100, in Kendall, and 13101 S. Dixie Hwy, Suite 420 in Pinecrest.
