Martin and Toni Sosnoff Make $1 Million Gift to Boca Raton Regional Hospital
Renowned Philanthropists’ Gift Will Support Behavioral Health Services
BOCA RATON, FL – May 15, 2023 – Martin and Toni Sosnoff have made a $1 million gift to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation. The gift will support the Integrated Behavioral Health Program at the Marcus Neuroscience Institute, and honor long-time Boca Raton Regional Hospital internist, Dr. Seba L. Krumholtz.
The Sosnoffs previously have been generous supporters of Keeping the Promise…The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The Campaign continues to soar thanks to the continued generosity of the Boca Raton community. With the $250 million goal now reached, the hospital continues to seek support from the community to meet the increasing health care needs of the growing patient population.
“All of the extraordinary gifts have a significant impact on the future of care here in Boca Raton and the surrounding area, and this one is certainly no different,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region Executive of Baptist Health and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “The Sosnoffs are interested in supporting our behavioral health services, a growing need and demand in our market and nationally. We all recognize the urgency of the crisis, particularly in our geographical area with an aging population. We deeply appreciate their generosity, and commitment to our long-term vision and plans for behavioral healthcare in the Boca Raton area.”
Martin T. Sosnoff is the Founder and retired former CEO and CIO of Atalanta Sosnoff Capital LLC, a firm he founded in 1981. At one point Mr. Sosnoff held a 13.6% stake in Caesars World Inc., the company behind the Caesars Palace casino and resort in Las Vegas, NV. He also owned a sizable equity position in The New York Times Company. Mr. Sosnoff is also a prolific author with four books on money management and the financial industry to his credit, as well as being a contributing columnist for Forbes and The New York Post. He holds an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business and a B.A. from City College of New York. His wife, Toni, is a graduate of Hofstra University.
The Sosnoffs are active and generous philanthropists to multiple organizations and causes in both healthcare and the arts through the Martin and Toni Sosnoff Foundation, with significant recent gifts to Bard College, the Ballet Theatre Foundation, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NewYork-Presbyterian, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and their respective alma maters, to name only a few.
Their seven-figure gift to the Integrated Behavioral Health Program bespeaks a need to address a burgeoning cultural issue. Alarmingly, the World Health Organization estimates that the amount of people globally suffering with dementia will double by 2050. Today alone, one in five adults in this country live with mental illness. In Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the aging population accounts for 90% of all behavioral health dilemmas.
“We know the severity of the behavioral health crisis, and have devoted space, resources, and the best trained clinicians and staff available to the issue,” said Stan Barry, co-chair of Keeping the Promise. “It is why gifts such as the one from the Sosnoffs mean so much to us. They recognize the problem, comprehend clearly the need for response, and appreciate the approach the hospital is taking to address it. We cannot thank them enough.”
Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been successfully conducting the $250 million Keeping the Promise Campaign for the last several years. It is the largest fund-raising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting its most ambitious period of growth and expansion. The campus redevelopment plans include at the centerpiece, the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards and other conveniences for visitors. The new tower features all new surgical suites and all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units including maternity, oncology, and orthopedics. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is well underway with emphasis on neurovascular/stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy/seizure disorders. The recently opened 972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility will be connected to the Marcus Neuroscience Institute once the new tower construction is complete. Also included in the plans is the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, to be located across the street from the hospital will be home to our Orthopedic Institute with an outpatient surgery center and physician specialty offices all opening in the fall of 2023.
