Marcus Neuroscience Institute to Host Brain and Spine Symposium

Boca Raton, FL-March 27thMarcus Neuroscience Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, will host its Brain and Spine Symposium from May 15th through the 16th at the Boca Marriott Town Center in Boca Raton. The two-day educational event will highlight the latest advances in the field of neuroscience through lectures, interactive panel discussions, and case-based presentations. In addition, experts will discuss best practices in the neuroscience field, including first-day presentations from the Institute’s neurosurgeon and course director, Timothy O’Connor, M.D., on the latest in augmented reality, as well as a discussion and presentation about normal pressure hydrocephalus and shunts from neurosurgeon Frank Vronis, M.D.

The second day will include presentations from neurologist Sameea Husain, D.O., on the latest findings about Parkinson’s Disease along with the newest treatments. Course director and Director of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Peter Gliebus, M.D., will discuss Frontotemporal Dementia and the effects it has on the brain.

Marcus Neuroscience Institute Brain and Spine Symposium is an educational event, and Baptist Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Faculty will include various specialties, neurosurgeons, experts in robotic spine surgery, cognitive and behavioral medical professionals in the region, and Marcus Neuroscience Institute’s physicians, including:

Svetlana Faktorovich, M.D., director of neuromuscular medicine and the director of the Neurology Infusion Lab 
Peter Gliebus, M.D., director of cognitive and behavioral neurology 
Sameea Husain, D.O., director of movement disorder neurology 
Amy Laitinen, M.D., director of multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology 
Timothy Miller, M.D., director of functional neurosurgery 
Evan Packer, M.D., director of neurosurgery 
Pooja Patel, M.D., director of the epilepsy monitoring unit 

The symposium will also welcome Deeptee Jain, M.D., orthopedic spine surgeon at the Center for Bone & Joint Surgery, to discuss interbody fusions and renowned neurosurgeon Philp Stieg, M.D., Ph.D., Chair and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at Weil Cornell Medicine, on current approaches to the management of intracranial AVMs.
