James MacCutcheon, MacCutcheon Family Foundation Makes Seven-Figure Gift to Boca Regional’s Keeping the Promise Capital Campaign

Local Corporate CEO’s Gift to Support the Lynn Heart and Vascular Institute

BOCA RATON, FL – April 9, 2024 – Local retired corporate CEO and Boca Raton resident James MacCutcheon, MacCutcheon Family Foundation has made a $1 million gift to Keeping the Promise…The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. His generosity will help support the campaign’s objectives within the Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute. Mr. MacCutcheon’s gift will be commemorated with the naming of the elevator lobby on the 4th floor connecting the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower to the new Critical Care Tower.

“We continue to be grateful for the generosity of local residents like Jim MacCutcheon, and the MacCutcheon Family Foundation who are forever family members of Boca Raton Regional Hospital,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region Executive, Baptist Health, and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “He understands the value and urgent need to fund our heart and vascular initiatives, as there is great demand for the latest and most sophisticated care in this area. We recognize and thank him for this selfless gift.”

Before retiring in 2007, James MacCutcheon was President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunburst Hospitality Corporation, a leading hotel owner and manager of nationally recognized hotels, which operated in 16 states. Prior to his role as CEO, Mr. MacCutcheon served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sunburst from 1997 to 2000 and held the same position just prior for Choice Hotels International. Earlier in his career,
Mr. MacCutchoen was a partner in an international accounting firm and was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Manor Care, Inc.

Mr. MacCutcheon currently serves on the Board of Directors of Comstock Holding Companies, Inc., and Her Second Chance. His roots in healthcare volunteerism also extend to the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, where he endowed the MacCutcheon Professorship
In Cardiac Critical Care Medicine.  He is a former member of the Board of Children’s National Medical Center where he served as Vice Chairman and Chair of the Finance Committee. Mr. MacCutcheon has served on a number of Boards, including Hampden-Sydney College, Vitalink Pharmacy Servius, Commonweal Foundation, and Sunbridge Capital Management.

We cannot afford to rest on recent accomplishments as there is so much progress yet to be achieved on our medical campus. The Keeping the Promise Campaign is the largest fund-raising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting more than $1 billion in capital investments. The campus redevelopment plans include the Gloria Drummond Patient Tower and a Critical Care Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards, and other conveniences for visitors. The project features all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units including maternity, oncology, and orthopedics. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is now completed with an emphasis on stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy. The 972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility is open and will be connected to the Marcus Neuroscience Institute. And the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, just recently opened, is home to our Orthopedic Institute with an outpatient surgery center, physician specialty offices and is adjacent to the Eleanor Baldwin Parking Facility.
