Joel and Beverly Altman Make 25 Million Gift to Keeping the Promise Capital Campaign
Gift Will Name Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s East Courtyard
BOCA RATON, FL – December 10, 2023 – Corporate leaders Joel Altman and Beverly Raphael-Altman have made a $2.5 million gift to Boca Raton Regional Hospital as the Keeping the Promise capital campaign celebrates historic fundraising success. The gift is in memory of Sydney Altman and will be recognized with the naming of the East Courtyard on the Boca Raton Regional Hospital campus.
“We are so thankful for the Altmans’ demonstration of generosity toward our billion dollar campus transformation,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region Executive, Baptist Health and CEO, Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “This is another extraordinary gift to Keeping the Promise and it continues to underscore the belief and trust in our vision, and the urgency people in our community feel about the future of healthcare here. Joel and Beverly have stepped up in powerful fashion to support us, and we owe them our everlasting gratitude.”
Joel Altman recently sold Altman Companies, a full-service development, construction and management company specializing in luxury multifamily apartment communities, which he founded in 1968. Through their many years in existence, the Altman Companies have developed, constructed, acquired and managed over 26,000 multi-family homes in Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina.
Joel is also a past member of the Hospital Foundation and past Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee of the Hospital Board. Joel’s father, Sydney Altman, was the first President of the Hospital Foundation Board.
Beverly Raphael-Altman is the CEO and chairwoman of RCC Associates, the nationally renowned general contractor with headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Florida. It was launched in 1971 behind the leadership of Beverly’s late husband, Richard. Beverly took over the reins of RCC, a company that already has brought more than a thousand projects to fruition through the decades, most notably in the culinary sector. Along the way, Beverly remarried, to husband Joel and enlisted her daughter, Robyn, who is currently the President and COO of RCC. She is proud they are female entrepreneurs in an industry typically devoid of them. Beverly was recently named the Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient for the South Florida Business and Wealth Prestigious Women Awards. Joel and Beverly have been staunch philanthropists in South Florida for many causes, including Baptist Health, and stand steadfastly behind Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s vision.
“Joel and I, and our entire family, know the value of healthcare…the most sophisticated healthcare possible…first hand,” said Beverly. “We have a wonderful insight into the plans and vision of Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and believe they have the health and well-being of everyone in this community in mind as they forge their way into the future. We’re proud to be part of this effort.”
The Keeping the Promise Campaign is the largest fundraising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting more than $1 billion in capital investments. The campus redevelopment plans include the Gloria Drummond Patient Tower and a Critical Care Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards and other conveniences for visitors. The project features all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units including maternity, oncology, and orthopedics. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is now completed with an emphasis on stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy. The 972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility is open and will be connected to the Marcus Neuroscience Institute. And the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, opening this fall, is home to our Orthopedic Institute with an outpatient surgery center, physician specialty offices and is adjacent to the Eleanor Baldwin Parking Facility.
“When people like Joel and Beverly invest in such a substantial way in the future of medicine here, and the ideal we have worked so hard to formulate, it is beyond gratifying,” said Stan Barry, Foundation Chairman and co-chair of Keeping the Promise campaign. “We thank them heartily and are proud to partner with them as we move forward with our plans.”
