Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeon Dr. Roy Cardoso joins Baptist Health Orthopedic Care
MIAMI – May 11, 2020 – Orthopedic surgeon Roy Cardoso, M.D., FACS, has joined Baptist Health Orthopedic Care, part of Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Cardoso specializes in conditions of the hand and upper extremity. His clinical interests include surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. He is particularly interested in complex elbow reconstruction and peripheral nerve injury, including the brachial plexus. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Dr. Cardoso was an assistant professor of hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Miami for three years. There, he helped train residents and fellows. He has lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including brachial plexus, wrist and elbow injuries. Dr. Cardoso has also participated in many volunteer medical trips overseas.

Additionally, Dr. Cardoso is involved in both clinical and basic science research. He has co-authored a number of medical articles and book chapters. In 2001, he was recognized with the Interim Year Research Training Award by the National Institutes of Health. In 2011, he was chosen as a Young Leader by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Cardoso approaches patient care by treating his patients as he would his family, with compassion and empathy. He is committed to listening to and addressing each person’s questions and concerns. His focus is to restore as much function as possible to the hand and arm. Dr. Cardoso is passionate about helping patients regain their quality of life and return to the activities they love.
Dr. Cardoso earned his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California Davis in Sacramento. He completed his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand.
Dr. Cardoso is affiliated with Baptist Hospital, Doctors Hospital, South Miami Hospital and West Kendall Baptist Hospital. He will see patients at two office locations: 1150 Campo Sano Avenue, first floor, in Coral Gables and 4741 South University Drive, Suite 140, in Davie.
