Sean Xavier Cavanaugh, M.D., Joins Baptist Health as a Radiation Oncologist
BOCA RATON, FL – April 23, 2024 – Board-certified radiation oncologist Sean Xavier Cavanaugh, M.D., has joined the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. He specializes in treating all types of cancer and cancer-related pain with advanced radiation therapies.
Prior to joining Lynn Cancer Institute, Dr. Cavanaugh served as a radiation oncologist and the regional medical director for GenesisCare in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. He was also an adjunct professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga.
“We are happy to welcome Dr. Cavanaugh to our multidisciplinary cancer care team, dedicated to the highest quality care,” said Louise Morrell, M.D., medical director at Lynn Cancer Institute.
Dr. Cavanaugh earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and completed a radiation oncology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, MD Anderson Cancer Center.
He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and received board recognition for practice focus in brachytherapy. He is a member of several professional organizations. He has been involved in numerous clinical studies and is a two-time winner of the Radiological Society of North America's Roentgen Resident Research Award.
When used properly, radiation therapy can dramatically improve both quality and quantity of life for cancer patients, Dr. Cavanaugh says. To ensure patients achieve quality of life during treatment, he partners with them to set clear goals, schedules ample, face-to-face time to review their progress and responds to any side-effects they are experiencing with compassionate expertise. “I especially enjoy those moments when I am able to provide options and encouragement to a patient who thought there was no hope,” Dr. Cavanaugh said.
Dr. Cavanaugh will see patients at three Lynn Cancer Institute locations: 701 N.W. 13 Street, Boca Raton, FL 33486; 16313 S. Military Trail, Delray Beach, FL 33484; and 10301 Hagen Ranch Road, Suite A-960, Boynton Beach, FL 33437.
