October 1, 2025

MIAMI, FL – October 1, 2025 – Hematologist oncologist Delia Constanza Guaqueta, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. She specializes in the treatment of breast cancer at every stage of a patient’s medical journey, from diagnosis through treatment and into remission. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and medical oncology.

Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Guaqueta was a breast medical oncologist at Memorial Cancer Institute, part of Memorial Healthcare System. She served as the medical director of Breast Cancer Research and as a member of various leadership committees within the Institute.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Guaqueta to our highly skilled team of cancer care specialists dedicated to providing the highest quality care,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., executive deputy medical director and chief medical officer at Miami Cancer Institute.

Dr. Guaqueta is actively involved in clinical research to bring new therapies to cancer patients. Her research interests include evaluating new targeted therapies based on the cancer genomic expression, as well as developing strategies to improve diversity in clinical trials. She has published her work in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at national and international scientific meetings. She also contributes to the scientific community as a member of several professional organizations.

Before earning her medical degree from Universidad de La Sabana in Colombia, Dr. Guaqueta completed two research fellowships at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine – one in the Center for Liver Disease and the other at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Her clinical training includes an internal medicine internship and residency at Tufts University School of Medicine, Steward Carney Hospital in Boston and a hematology oncology fellowship at Boston University, Boston Medical Center. She also received training in clinical development strategies from Harvard Medical School and clinical cancer genomics from the City of Hope Division of Clinical Cancer Genomics in Duarte, Calif.

Using a team-frame approach, Dr. Guaqueta partners with her patients and their families to review treatment options, discuss their pros and cons and consider both standard-of-care recommendations and potential clinical trials. “I offer patients and families compassion, acceptance and respect as we work together to establish the goals of therapy and accomplish those goals,” she said.

Dr. Guaqueta is fluent in English and Spanish. She will see patients at Miami Cancer Institute’s main campus, located at 8900 North Kendall Drive, Miami, FL 33176.
