Carlos Alvarado, M.D., Joins Baptist Health Medical Group

Carlos Alvarado, M.D.Orthopedic surgeon Carlos Alvarado, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 160 physicians integrated within Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in total joint replacement, minimally invasive approaches for hip arthroplasty, orthopedic trauma and general orthopedic surgery, complex fractures and musculoskeletal injuries, upper and lower extremity reconstruction and chronic post-traumatic orthopedic conditions.
 
Dr. Alvarado received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed a general surgical internship and an orthopedic surgery residency at New York University’s Langone Medical Center Hospital for Joint Diseases, where he received the Executive Chief Resident Award and the Ralph Luskin, M.D., Senior Resident Teaching Award. Dr. Alvarado continued his training with a total joint replacement/adult reconstruction fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.

While in New York City, Dr. Alvarado served as a house physician for the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and provided medical coverage for the New York City Public School Athletic League high school football teams. He volunteered on medical missions to Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Peru, and was the resident leader on mission trips to Haiti with Orthopedic Relief Services International. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
 
Dr. Alvarado is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons. During post-graduate training, he participated on a number of hospital committees, published research findings in medical journals and spoke at national orthopedic medical meetings. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Forum.
