Baptist Health’s South Miami Hospital awarded The Gold Seal® Accreditation from The Joint Commission for the Fifth Time
MIAMI, FL – July 21, 2022 – Baptist Health’s South Miami Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Prematurity and Pre-Term Labor Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
For the award, South Miami Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review by Joint Commission reviewers. During their visit, organization experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with prematurity and pre-term labor-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures were also assessed.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Baptist Health and the South Miami Hospital team for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
“We are humbled to once again receive The Gold Seal® of Approval for Prematurity and Pre-term labor,” said Bill Duquette, Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health’s South Miami Hospital. “It is our standing mission to put our patients and their wellbeing first, and this recognition is truly a testament to the entire team’s hard work and commitment. We look forward to continuing to provide the high-quality and personalized care that our community deserves.”
South Miami Hospital is currently the only hospital in the U.S. to earn both the Prematurity and Pre-Term Labor The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval at the same time.
