June 2, 2021

MIAMI, FL – June 2, 2021 – Baptist Health Innovations is now accepting applications for its inaugural Knight Foundation Fellowship in Healthcare Technology Innovation. The fellowship is a one-year program for entrepreneurs and innovators interested in healthcare technology and development.

Designed to bring together individuals from diverse professional backgrounds – including administration, engineering, legal and financial – the multidisciplinary fellowship is an opportunity to develop Miami’s tech and entrepreneurial talent. A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion will be a part of the application process.

Baptist Health continues to grow as a research and innovations hub. The fellowship provides a significant professional development opportunity and incorporates multifaceted, team-based projects designed to build innovator skills and networks critical to the development of new products, services and interventions in healthcare. The fellowship program is funded by a $1 million grant from the Knight Foundation and another $1 million in matching funds from community philanthropists raised through the Baptist Health Foundation in order to help sustain the program for years to come.

“This fellowship is an investment in our community and in the future of healthcare,” said Joe Natoli, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Baptist Health. “It will foster innovation and entrepreneurship and help to establish Baptist Health and our region as leaders in the development of healthcare technology and the talents needed to constantly reimagine how healthcare is delivered.”

The fellowship is designed for healthcare professionals and administrators, researchers, information technology specialists, physicians, designers, engineers and other professionals interested in healthcare and entrepreneurship.

Applicants with a passion for digital health, the patient experience, continuous improvement, complex designs, and more are invited to visit BaptistHealth.net/Innovations/Fellowship for more information and to apply to this selective program. Applicants will have the option to propose a new concept as part of their application.

The Knight Foundation’s support is part of a broad investment in Baptist Health and other local institutions to expand South Florida tech talent and accelerate innovation.

“Baptist Health South Florida is a landmark institution and key part of the region’s globally recognized health sector,” said Raul Moas, director of Knight’s Miami program. “Through the Fellowship in Healthcare Technology Innovation, Baptist Health is activating one of Miami’s greatest strengths — our people — and in turn, directly contributing to the city’s continued growth into a hub of tech and entrepreneurship.”

With many of its physicians and executives developing new techniques and devices, as well as collaborating with worldwide leaders in the industry, Baptist Health Innovations helps lead employee innovators and physicians from concept through the successful commercialization of ideas for new technologies and devices. The fellowship platform will be taught by world-renowned educator, Joseph Jankowski, Ph.D., senior advisor to Baptist Health Innovations, who based the fellowship curriculum on nationally recognized bio design and innovations platforms.

The fellowship will provide fellows with a multi-faceted curriculum and exposure to speakers with expertise in intellectual asset management, regulatory environments, economic modeling, innovation skills and business strategies, including how to bring new products to the marketplace.

Fellows will connect with business executives and work directly with leaders from the South Florida, national and international innovation communities who will share their personal and professional insights in innovation.
