Baptist Health South Miami Hospital earns Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation
MIAMI, FL – June 19, 2023 – Baptist Health South Miami Hospital has earned Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians. The three-year accreditation is awarded to emergency departments that provide the highest level of older adult care and ensure optimal transitions of care. South Miami Hospital’s Emergency Department achieved the silver standard — Level 2 GEDA.
The voluntary GEDA program provides specific geriatric-focused criteria and goals for emergency clinicians and administrators to target. As an Accredited Geriatric Emergency Department, South Miami Hospital follows more than two dozen best practices for geriatric care, offers enhanced staffing, uses geriatric appropriate equipment and supplies, manages transitions of care and delivers interdisciplinary geriatric education.
“South Miami Hospital is dedicated to providing senior patients with well-coordinated, personalized, quality care,” said Bill Duquette, CEO of South Miami Hospital. “Seniors who visit our emergency department can be assured that our facility has the necessary personnel, expertise and equipment in place to provide optimal care.”
The Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation program is built on the financial support and foundational work of the Gary and Mary West Health Institute and John A. Hartford Foundation — organizations that are committed to transforming how the care of older adults is delivered.
