Jay Hershoff Appointed Chair of Baptist Health Board of Trustees, Succeeding James Carr

MIAMI, FL – September 30, 2022 – Baptist Health South Florida announced today that Bo Boulenger has been appointed the organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer, effective Oct. 1, succeeding Brian E. Keeley, who is retiring after 50 years of leading the largest healthcare organization in the region.

In addition, Jay Hershoff has been appointed as the Board Chair of the Baptist Health Board of Trustees, a position previously held by James Carr. Hershoff, an attorney with Hershoff, Lupno and Yagel, has served as a Baptist Health board member for more than 23 years, holding several positions including chairman of the Fishermen’s Community Hospital and Mariners Hospital boards and vice chairman of the Baptist Health South Florida board.

“As I step away from the privilege of leading the tremendously talented team at Baptist Health, I know the organization is in great hands with Bo guiding it into the future,” said Brian E. Keeley, CEO of Baptist Health. “He is an outstanding leader, and in our long history he has been an integral partner who shares a mission-driven passion for excellent patient care delivered by the most skilled and compassionate team.”

Mr. Boulenger began his career with Baptist Health in 1985, when he joined South Miami Hospital. He went on to serve as CEO at Homestead Hospital, and later as CEO of Baptist Hospital. Most recently, he was President and Chief Operating Officer for Baptist Health, where he was responsible for all of Baptist Health’s hospitals, institutes and outpatient facilities and physician practices spanning four counties. He also served as incident commander overseeing all operations during natural disasters and crises, including, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic response.

“I am humbled to be stepping into this role and honoring Brian’s legacy in leading Baptist Health into its next chapter with a well-established commitment to providing the highest quality care for our community,” said Bo Boulenger. “I want to thank Brian for his visionary leadership and applaud his extraordinary achievements in expanding this organization from a single hospital to one of the largest and most trusted healthcare systems in the country.”

“Being part of an organization such as Baptist Health is a fulfilling experience, and I feel proud to transition my duties as Board Chair to Jay Hershoff, whose expertise and experience will successfully guide and support the mission of improving the lives in this community,” said Jim Carr, former Chairman, Baptist Health Board of Trustees. “It has been a great honor to work with Brian Keeley and like him, I look forward to seeing how Baptist Health continues to evolve in the coming years.”

“I am grateful and honored to accept the role of Board Chair at an exciting time for Baptist Health, as it continues to expand and innovate to provide exceptional healthcare for patients and families in South Florida and beyond,” said Jay Hershoff. “For many years I have had the privilege of working with the esteemed Baptist Health board and leadership who are always focused on doing what’s right and what’s best for the communities we serve.”

Members of all Baptist Health boards serve voluntarily and without compensation. They must abide by a rigid conflict-of-interest policy that prevents them or their family members from doing business with Baptist Health or any of its subsidiaries.
