MIAMI, FL – July 15, 2026 – Cardiologist Alexander Kong, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute , part of Baptist Health Heart & Vascular Care. Dr. Kong specializes in cardiovascular disease with clinical interests in both acute and preventive cardiovascular care, as well as in cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac CT and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Kong recently completed a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he received training in interventional and structural echocardiography, cardiac CT, nuclear cardiology, vascular ultrasound, cardiac critical care and cardiac catheterization.

Before completing his fellowship, Dr. Kong served as chief resident in quality improvement and patient safety for the Orlando VA Healthcare System and University of Central Florida/HCA Florida. He also worked as an academic hospitalist and assistant professor of medicine, mentoring residents and medical students while contributing to patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Dr. Kong has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented research at national scientific meetings such as the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Session. His work has focused on cardiovascular imaging, arrhythmias, heart failure and quality improvement in patient care. He has also received several honors for his leadership and commitment to healthcare quality, including the Junior Cardiology Fellow of the Year award at Orlando Health and Lean Six Sigma certifications through the Veterans Health Administration.

MIAMI, FL – July 14, 2026 – Advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist Sanjeev Kumar Gulati, M.D., FACC, has joined B aptist Health Heart & Vascular Care, and will serve as executive deputy director and system chief of cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Gulati has a long and successful track record of leading large healthcare systems, bringing more than two decades of leadership and clinical experience in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.

Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Gulati served as chief of adult cardiology at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, part of Advocate Health. During his tenure, he helped expand cardiovascular services across the Southeast, developed innovative virtual cardiology and population health programs and implemented team-based care models focused on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency, leading the growth and transformation of one of the largest cardiovascular programs in the country.

Dr. Cherian is triple board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine. MIAMI, FL – July 7, 2026 – Neurologist Michael Todinca, M.D., who specializes in neuromuscular medicine, has joined Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, part of Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care. He diagnoses and treats a wide range of neuromuscular and neurologic conditions and performs advanced diagnostic testing, including electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS).

Dr. Todinca brings nearly a decade of postgraduate medical experience and a strong commitment to patient-centered care. His clinical focus includes peripheral neuropathies — particularly immune-mediated conditions such as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Guillain-Barré syndrome — as well as myasthenia gravis, myopathies, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular disorders. Baptist Health Cancer Care to Present Research on Precision Radiation Therapy Across Complex Cancers at ASTRO 2026

MIAMI, FL & BOSTON, MA – July 2, 2026 – Experts across Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute and Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute will present new radiation oncology research and clinical expertise at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), September 26-30, 2026, in Boston. The presentations will highlight emerging approaches in MR-guided adaptive radiation therapy, radiopharmaceutical therapy, proton therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and treatment timing across a range of complex cancers.

The research spans several areas of significant clinical need, including brain metastases, prostate cancer, pancreaticobiliary cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, anal cancer, and pediatric and young adult lymphoma. Among the studies are analyses of PSMA PET-derived biomarkers in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, early intracranial radiotherapy for breast cancer brain metastases, ablative MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy for anatomically challenging tumors, and outcomes following proton craniospinal irradiation for solid tumor leptomeningeal metastasis.

“ASTRO is an important forum for advancing the science and clinical practice of radiation oncology,” said Minesh P. Baptist Health South Florida and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami Reach 100 Homes, Expanding Affordable Homeownership

Miami, FL—June 17, 2026— Baptist Health South Florida and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami celebrated an important milestone with the sponsorship of their 100th home in Miami-Dade County. The milestone was commemorated during a with a dedication ceremony on June 17th, bringing together volunteers, partners, and community members who supported the build, as well as current and former homeowners whose lives have been impacted by the partnership.

Since 2000 Baptist Health South Florida has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami and increased their commitment over the years to support six to eight families each year in achieving affordable homeownership, contributing more than $7.8 million toward housing opportunities across the region.

Among the families moving forward on their path to homeownership through this partnership is future homeowner Shirley, mother of three, grandmother, and primary caregiver for her son and elderly mother, who is purchasing her first home through Miami Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.

“I’ve always wanted to get my own home. But it’s been a rough road.” Shirley said. “I’ve moved five times in 10 years. It’s time."

As a hospitality professional, Shirley has spent her life caring for others in our community. Now, with support from Baptist Health South Florida and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, she is taking a meaningful step toward homeownership and long-term stability for her family,

“Now, changing from renter to homeowner, I can breathe. My eldest son has additional needs, and I want to give him a place where he can feel at home… not moving from one rental to the next. I’m very excited about this opportunity.” Shirley said.

Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute Names Alia Abdulla, D.O., Chief of Breast Surgical Oncology in Plantation

MIAMI, FL – June 1, 2026 – Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute has named fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist Alia Abdulla, D.O., FACS, FSSO, chief of breast surgical oncology in Plantation. Serving as both a surgeon and an advocate in this role, Dr. Abdulla delivers evidence-based, multidisciplinary care while personalizing each treatment plan to align with a patient’s values, goals and lifestyle. Her objective is to achieve the best oncologic outcomes while preserving a patient’s quality of life, body image and long-term well-being.

Passionate about mentorship and the development of clinicians, Dr. Abdulla serves as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine. Prior to joining Baptist Health, she was a breast surgical oncologist at Broward Health Medical Center and a clinical assistant professor of surgery for Broward Health’s general surgical residency program.

Dr. Abdulla has published her research in peer-reviewed medical journals and books and presented at healthcare conferences. She also contributes to the scientific community as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology and a member of several professional organizations.
