In a historic affiliation, two of South Florida’s most trusted institutions — Baptist Health South Florida and Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine — are working together in West Kendall Baptist Hospital to address the growing need for accessible medical care in South Florida.
West Kendall Baptist Hospital is hosting an accredited medical residency program that combines Baptist Health South Florida’s renowned medical experts with the cutting-edge technology and methods that can only be found in an academic atmosphere. It will be Baptist Health’s first facility created with the specific intention of serving as an academic medical center.
By playing a major role in the education of young doctors, West Kendall Baptist Hospital will continue to be a catalyst for improved healthcare in the community. Javier Hernández-Lichtl, CEO of West Kendall Baptist Hospital, has been named Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the FIU College of Medicine and Corporate Chief Academic Officer for Baptist Health South Florida.
Over 100 Baptist Health physicians and administrators have accepted key positions within FIU’s medical school, including five department chairs and two associate deans. Among them are Mr. Hernández-Lichtl and Barry Katzen, M.D., medical director of Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.
