NEWS STORIES

Recent Baptist Health News

  • Baptist Health has a long-standing commitment to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patient information entrusted to us. We deeply regret that, despite our efforts and commitment to protecting patient privacy, we experienced a security breach at Bethesda Hospital that included some of our patients’ information.

On December 1, 2020, we discovered that an employee at Bethesda Hospital impermissibly accessed protected health information and altered a home health order that was used to provide a patient with home care services. We immediately launched an ongoing internal investigation, terminated the employee and notified law enforcement.

If you were a patient at Bethesda Hospital between August 26, 2017, and December 2, 2020, you may have been affected. The information that may have been compromised includes name, date of birth, address, insurance information and clinical documentation. It also may have included your social security number.

We have separately notified those individuals whom we believe were potentially affected by this employee's actions, and as a precautionary measure to help safeguard our patients’ personal information, we have arranged for them to receive identity protection and credit monitoring for 12 months.

We value the confidentiality of the information that patients entrust to us and take steps to secure that information. Baptist Health takes privacy and confidentiality very seriously, and as a result of this unfortunate incident, we are exploring ways that we can further safeguard our patients’ protected health information. Should you have any questions or feel that this incident may have caused you any harm, please contact the Baptist Health Privacy Office at Privacy@BaptistHealth.net or 786-596-8850 or 866-33-HIPAA (866-334-4722).

*Estimated wait times are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed. While your medical condition will be evaluated by a qualified health care professional after your arrival, The estimated wait time indicated is the average estimated time it will take for you to be seen by a treating medical professional (physician, nurse, practitioner or physician assistant.

Depending on your medical condition and that of other patients at the center, the estimated wait time can change since patients are seen based on the severity of their condition, and the more critical patients are seen first. This estimate is provided for information purposes only and cannot be guaranteed.

During your visit at our facility, you may receive services from our facility as well as from other health care providers. You may receive a separate bill from these other health care providers, and they may or may not participate in the same health insurance plans as the facility. You should contact the health care providers who may render services to you for a list of the insurance plans with which they participate. You may also request from the facility and other health care providers a personalized estimate of charges. For a list of health care providers and medical practices who may provide services to you during your visit a Baptist Health facility, click here

If you have any questions regarding a separate statement/invoice you received from a health care provider, please contact the specific health care provider’s or group’s billing offices.

If however, you have any questions or concerns directly pertaining to your Baptist Health facility bill, please contact our Patient Financial Services Department at 786-594-6000.

Resources for Hospital Data

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) makes available data on hospital prices and performance on their Internet website at FloridaHealthFinder.gov and Pricing.FloridaHealthFinder.gov. The data on hospital prices and performance are based on a compilation of charges for the average patient. A patient's bill may vary from the average shown, depending upon the severity of illness and individual care needs. The service bundle information is a non-personalized estimate of costs that may be incurred by the patient for anticipated services and that actual costs will be based on services actually provided to the patient.
