Bernardo B. Fernandez Jr. M.D., MBAChief Executive Officer
Bernardo “Bernie” Fernandez, M.D., is the Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health Medical Group, a network of more than 250 physicians in multiple specialties spanning from Broward, Dade and Monroe County and the holder of the John and Margaret Krupa Distinguished Chair.
Prior to joining Baptist Health South Florida, Dr. Fernandez, an internist who specializes in vascular medicine, served as CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic Florida, a world-renowned academic medical center with locations in Weston and West Palm Beach, Florida. In 2013, Dr. Fernandez was honored by The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives with the prestigious award of National Hospital CEO of the Year. Also in June 2013, he was appointed to the Florida Board of Medicine by Governor Rick Scott until 2017. During his tenure, he was elected vice chairman in 2014 and Chairman of the Board in 2015.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Dr. Fernandez received his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and completed his internal medicine residency and vascular medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He is Board-certified by the American Board of Vascular Medicine and a Fellow of the Society of Vascular Medicine and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Fernandez holds an MBA from the University of Miami, School of Business and is also a graduate of the Wharton School of Business’ Executive Development Program.
Active in the South Florida community, Dr. Fernandez is a member of the Orange Bowl Committee, a member of the board of trustees for St. Thomas University, a member of the board of directors of U.S. Century Bank, one of the largest community banks headquartered in Miami and one of the largest Hispanic-owned community banks in the nation. He also serves on the board of the Health Network Foundation, the East Ridge Corporate Advisory Board; a subsidiary of Santa Fe Healthcare Inc., as well as the Broward Workshop and the Community Foundation of Broward. Dr. Fernandez served on the University of Miami School of Business Administration for Health Sector Management and Policy. He also served on the selection panel for the White House Fellows program, one of America’s most prestigious programs for leadership and public service, in 2011 and 2017. Dr. Fernandez is a member of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale chapter of the Young President's Organization, YPO Gold, where he has been membership chair since 2015.
Dr. Fernandez and his wife, Dr. Rosa Monte Fernandez, a pediatrician, reside in Davie and have two children.
William G. UlbrichtChief Operating and Administrative Officer
William (Bill) Ulbricht is currently serving as the Chief Operating and Administrative Officer for the Clinical Enterprise division of Baptist Health South Florida since August, 2019. The responsibilities include administrative operational support of the Clinical Enterprise division, system wide. These areas include Baptist Health Medical Group, Baptist Health Quality Network, eICU, Research, Home Health, and the support of the Specialty Institutes within the Baptist Health South Florida System.
Bill dedicated 23 years working with the BayCare Health System in Tampa, Florida, starting as the chief operating officer/president of South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, Florida. An opportunity then arose involving the revitalization of St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida with Bill driving the effort as their President. During his tenure at St. Anthony’s, the hospital increased their market share from 19% to a market lead of 41% of patients served. Additionally, St. Anthony’s also became the community’s leader in patient satisfaction and quality of care measurements as reported by several outside resources.
Following St. Anthony’s success, Bill was then promoted to Senior Vice President-Chief Administrative Officer for Baycare Medical Group in June, 2016. Baycare Medical Group is the largest Medical Group in Tampa Bay and is composed of Primary Care and many Specialty Physicians.
With almost 30 years of operational and management experience, Bill has a strong background in healthcare finance, strategic planning, and organizational development. Bill’s mission of improving the health of all we serve has helped to shape his career and allowed the organizations he has led to become well-respected and known for high quality care.

Bill received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration - Finance from the University of Kentucky and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Regis University in Denver.
He is married to his wife, Ann and has two daughters – Emilie and Lindsey.
