Health and fitness topped the menu this past weekend at the Fun & Fit as a Family event at Jungle Island. The importance of eating at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day was offered by Baptist Health South Florida and the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.

At the Fun & Fit event, South Miami Hospital’s Chef Richard Plasencia led the “Five A Day the Baptist Health Way” presentation. The Baptist Health team offered a free vegetable-and-fruit salad bar that served cucumbers, mangos, apples, pineapples, cranberries and peaches.

“Healthy food choices can offer lots of taste and variety,” Chef Richard said, while keeping the Baptist Health table stocked with a rainbow of fruit and veggies for a crowd that included toddlers, teens, parents and grandparents.

The two-day family-friendly event at Jungle Island — part of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBE WFF) — offered music, cooking experts, celebrity chef, family fitness activities and hands-on cooking lessons for children.
