PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency at Baptist Hospital

The PGY2 Cardiology Residency Program at Baptist Hospital is a 52-week pharmacy specialty-training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program is designed to establish a foundation of cardiovascular knowledge and to develop the skills and practice trends necessary to deliver highly specialized pharmaceutical care.

The goal of the program is to develop independent pharmacy practitioners to become integral members of the cardiology multidisciplinary team. This specialty residency program builds upon the general competencies achieved during a PGY1 residency, expanding the ability of residents to provide care for complex cardiovascular patients in a variety of settings including but not limited to acute, medical, interventional, surgical, and ambulatory care areas. The training is coordinated to allow residents to master each of the disease states established within the ASHP Practice Standards for PGY2 residency in cardiology. It empowers residents to function as independent practitioners with the ability to incorporate both knowledge and experience into outcomes-driven medication therapy. Opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement, and professional writing are integrated. Upon completion of this program, the graduating residents will be prepared to seek board certification in cardiology and will have the necessary expertise to exercise clinical and leadership abilities as a cardiology clinical specialist.

Eligibility Requirements and Application Schedule

Our program attracts, educates, and retains exceptional healthcare talent to serve the South Florida community. Program participants will be trained in the Baptist Health Way with a focus on quality, inclusion, compassion, and collaboration.

Program Eligibility

  • Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency (certificate required)
  • Must obtain a Florida pharmacist’s license

Application Requirements

Prospective residents are required to submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Official transcripts from all colleges of pharmacy attended
  • Three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™
  • Personal statement of intent

Core Learning Experiences

Our program curriculum incorporates several block rotations typically lasting several weeks, giving trainees exposure to a wide variety of learning experiences throughout the duration of the program.

Our program curriculum incorporates several longitudinal rotations, immersing trainees in particular areas of study throughout the entire duration of the training program.
