This second-year residency program is intended to increase the resident’s depth of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and level of expertise in medication therapy management and clinical leadership in ambulatory care. The intent of this program would be to not only to prepare the pharmacist to be proficient as a clinician, but to also give them the foundation to successfully complete the Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) examination.

This Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) program is 52 weeks in length. Residents completing this program will exhibit a thorough knowledge base and corresponding skills required to function independently in the ambulatory care setting. They will be effective, confident, and well-informed practitioners who will be capable of providing evidence-based care to ambulatory patients. The focus of the residency program is direct patient care and clinical practice, involving experiences with an interdisciplinary Ambulatory Care team in Primary Care, Cardiology, Endocrinology, and specialty environments.

Strengths of the Program:

  • Employed physician groups in Primary Care, Endocrinology, and Cardiology, practicing cutting-edge, evidence-based patient care in a collaborative environment
  • Health-system presence across a diverse patient demographic—spanning from The Keys to Palm Beach County
  • Specialty Pharmacy presence allowing for direct patient care as well as dispensary and administrative learning experiences
  • Population Health management team with responsibilities for insurance contracts and Quality Metric outcomes providing unique exposure to Accountable Care Organization (ACO)-like experience
  • Design of the overall program allows for non-patient care experiences including:
    • Research and presentation at professional associations (i.e., ASHP)
    • Community CE opportunities for professional associations (i.e., DCPA, FSHP)
    • Formal CE application and presentations at Baptist Health South Florida for pharmacists and technicians
    • Student teaching
    • Pharmacy Technician training program
    • PGY1 Resident mentoring
    • Teaching certificate opportunity
