    Maria C. Rojo-Carlo, PharmD, BCPS

    Program Director

    Dr. Rojo-Carlo is the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director (RPD) at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. She is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Rojo-Carlo has been a member of the Baptist Health South Florida team since 2010. In 2011, she joined West Kendall Baptist Hospital as part of the inaugural pharmacy team, is the current Clinical Pharmacy Manager, and is an active member of various committees both at West Kendall and throughout Baptist Health South Florida. Throughout her career, Dr. Rojo-Carlo has been involved in precepting pharmacy students and continues her involvement student mentorship by participating in the Career Coach program for the University of Florida, as well as the ASHP Guided Mentorship Program. She served as preceptor for the Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Transitions of Care residency rotations prior to taking oversight of the residency program as its director. In her current role as RPD she continues to support and mentor residents with various projects throughout the year.

    Dr. Jason Armada earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) from Nova Southeastern University in 2021. Upon graduation, he completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. Following this, Dr. Armada became a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Armada is committed to advancing the field of pharmacy through training and precepting the next generation of pharmacists.

    Fabiola Arguello, PharmD, BCPS

    Critical Care

    Dr. Fabiola Arguello received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University. She then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) at The Medical College of Georgia in conjunction with The University of Georgia, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Arguello precepts pharmacy residents during the Critical Care experience. In addition, she precepts pharmacy students for Internal Medicine from The University of Florida and from Nova Southeastern University.

  • Nelida (Lydie) Fontana, PharmD, BCPS

    Nelida (Lydie) Fontana, PharmD, BCPS

    Academia

    Dr. Fontana received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital of Miami, FL, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Fontana started her career at West Kendall Baptist Hospital pharmacy in 2013. As a resident, she piloted the Transitions of Care program and the unit-based pharmacy practice model which are still in place today. She is the Advanced Pharmacy Practice (APPE) Coordinator for student rotations and the Residency Coordinator for WKBH PGY1 Residency program. She is secretary of the Unit Based Pharmacy Practice Council and is an active member of various interdisciplinary and system-wide committees. Dr. Fontana takes joy in precepting students and residents. She is a project mentor for residents, an APPE preceptor for advanced hospital students and a Career Coach for students at the University of Florida.

    Internal Medicine

    Dr. Mariana Martin Guillen received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital in Florida, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. She has been a part of the pharmacy team at West Kendall Baptist Hospital since 2022. She currently practices as a Clinical Pharmacist at West Kendall Baptist Hospital and is co-chair of the Unit Based Pharmacy Practice Council. Dr. Martin Guillen has been the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program local representative at West Kendall Baptist Hospital since the beginning of 2024 and is an active member of the Infection Control Committee. Additionally, she is the co-preceptor for the Internal Medicine experience of the pharmacy residency program and precepts pharmacy students for Internal Medicine from Nova Southeastern University.

    Pharmacy Practice

    Dr. Mariela Insignares is excited to join West Kendall Baptist Hospital as a co-preceptor for pharmacy practice. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. She is an active member of the Medication Safety Committee and co-chairs the Unit Based Practice Council at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Dr. Insignares is truly delighted to precept the new generation of pharmacy residents and to share her experience with future generations of pharmacists. She considers it a privilege to be part of this dynamic team and institution.

    Medication Safety & Quality

    Dr. Abby Marrero is Director of Pharmacy Services at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Dr. Marrero obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern. She completed a PGY1 at Baptist Hospital of Miami/Nova Southeastern University, became Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy in 2009, and Board Certified in Critical Care in 2015. Dr. Marrero started her career as a Clinical Coordinator at Coral Gables Hospital, then at Jackson South Community Hospital. During her career, Dr. Marrero has been involved in precepting and mentoring students. She serves a certificate course facilitator for the University of Florida. Dr. Marrero joined Baptist Health South Florida (BHSF) at West Kendall Baptist Hospital in January 2011 as a Clinical Coordinator, and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist. She became the PGY1 residency director in 2014 until 2018 for the WKBH program. She continues to be actively involved in the residency program as a preceptor and member of the Residency Advisory Committee. Dr. Marrero is involved in numerous committees at West Kendall and throughout Baptist Health South Florida.

    Pharmacy Practice

    Dr. Laura Canino obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University. After graduation she completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital of Miami, and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Canino precepts pharmacy students for Internal Medicine. She is a medication safety officer, and reviews hospital wide falls incidents. Dr. Canino approach to pharmacy practice is guided by a patient-centered philosophy, emphasizing the importance of personalized medication management and collaborative care.

  • Alma Nieves, RPh, BCPS

    Alma Nieves, RPh, BCPS

    Transitions of Care

    Alma is the primary preceptor for the Pharmacy Practice experience for the residency program. She has extensive experience in pharmacy workflow, narcotic diversion monitoring, parenteral nutrition, anticoagulation, and direct patient care monitoring. She is an active member of the Infection Control Committee at West Kendall Baptist. She also serves as the site coordinator and preceptor for the Hospital Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (HIPPE) students. Alma earned her B.S Pharmacy from University of Puerto Rico, and has completed programs in Medication Therapy Management and Anticoagulation Certificate program from the University of Florida. Prior to joining the West Kendall pharmacy team she worked as clinical practice pharmacist for Jackson South Medical Center.

    Margarita Nieves, PharmD, CPh

    Medication Safety & Quality

    Dr. Margarita E. Nieves is the Pharmacy Operations Manager and preceptor for Administration, Medication Safety, and Performance Improvement. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy in Winchester, Virginia and received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. Dr. Nieves has had extensive pharmacy administration experience and IV room operations training. She has had training/certification from Critical Point for USP 797, MTM Certification from the University of Florida and is the co-chair for the BHSF Operations Team. She serves as a member of numerous committees including West Kendall Baptist Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee and Medication Safety. In addition, Dr. Nieves oversees pharmacy operations at both Off Campus Emergency Departments for West Kendall Baptist Hospital.

    Medication Safety & Quality

    Dr. Maria Perez-Arias obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southeastern University of the Health Sciences College of Pharmacy. Upon graduation, Dr. Perez-Arias joined the Pediatric Pharmacy team at the Holtz Children’s Hospital at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. She practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist in several areas including, General Pediatrics, Neonatology, Transplant and Critical Care. Currently Dr. Perez-Arias is the Patient Safety and Quality Coordinator at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. She chairs the Medication Safety Committee and co-chairs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. She participates in several other committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Antimicrobial Review, Residency Advisory, Patient Safety, and Pediatric Clinical Optimization Committees. During her tenure, she has participated in multiple performance improvement and medication safety initiatives, precepted students and residents, mentored fellow pharmacists, and contributed to the medical literature with several abstracts and articles.

    Bianca Remigio, PharmD, BCPS

    Emergency Medicine

    Dr. Bianca Remigio received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. She has been a part of the pharmacy team at West Kendall Baptist Hospital since 2012. She is currently a Clinical Pharmacist and is the preceptor for the Emergency Medicine experience.

    Dr. Carolyn Ruiz obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2018 from Nova Southeastern University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital of Miami, Florida. Her career started as a Clinical Pharmacist at West Kendall Baptist Hospital pharmacy in 2019 and she is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy and Critical Care. Dr. Ruiz precepts pharmacy residents during the Critical Care experience. Additionally, she precepts pharmacy students during the Internal Medicine experience for Nova Southeastern University.
