Nurses at Baptist Health South Florida are encouraged to pursue learning throughout their career. Baptist Health rewards nurses who continue their education through the innovative Baptist Health Scholars Program. Through academic partnerships with South Florida institutions of higher learning, Baptist Health offers funding, faculty, classroom space and clinical sites for undergraduate nursing programs. Participating schools include Barry University, Miami Dade College and Nova Southeastern University.

Nurses may apply for full or partial scholarships through the program in return for work commitments of four to five years, depending on the curriculum completed. Entry-level nursing programs are targeted to students who are just entering the profession. Advanced-degree programs are also available to existing Baptist Health employees. All Scholars Program participants benefit from an intensive on-the-job mentoring program and learn to deliver patient care using evidence-based practice.

The Scholars Program addresses the critical and ongoing shortage of registered nurses in South Florida and across the country. The challenge is twofold: to increase the number of new nurses entering the  workforce, and to equip both novice and experienced nurses with new skills demanded by our nation’s rapidly changing healthcare industry.

Since the Scholars Program’s inception in 2000, Baptist Health has awarded more than 3,300 scholarships totaling more than $36 million. Scholars Program participants contribute to Baptist Health’s culture of nursing excellence and help us build a stable, professional nursing community in South Florida.
