Laughter Really is the Best Medicine
Double the Reason to Celebrate
At Baptist Children’s Hospital’s 16th annual NICU Reunion, nurse manager Maria Olmeda, R.N., left, and supervisor Sheila Hecht, R.N., right, play with Kiara and Kasey Reyes, age 2. The twin girls were reunited with nurses, doctors and others who cared for them during their one-month stay in the NICU after they were born. Each year, the George Batchelor/Gloria Vasta Lewis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit throws a free party for former NICU patients and their families. It’s a chance for the families to celebrate their children’s growth and for doctors and nurses to share in the milestones of the youngsters. Kids were treated to face painting, clowns, bounce houses, and a petting zoo.
