South Miami’s Fibroid Center

South Miami Hospital's Fibroid Center, part of the hospital's Center for Women & Infants, offers women a unique approach to diagnosing and treating uterine fibroids. Our expert team of physicians — gynecologists, robotic surgeons, fertility specialists and interventional radiologists — work closely with each woman and her own doctor to create an individualized treatment plan tailored to her needs.

Options include minimally invasive and traditional treatments that can preserve a woman's fertility. Our Center also has a dedicated nurse practitioner and a coordinator who schedule tests and evaluations with our specialists in one comprehensive visit, saving women valuable time.

What are the symptoms of uterine fibroids?

While many women with uterine fibroids have no symptoms, fibroids can cause the following symptoms:

  • Heavy, prolonged or irregular menstrual periods
  • Severe menstrual cramps
  • Anemia
  • Pain or pressure in the hips, pelvis or legs
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

What treatments are available?

  • Hormone therapy
  • Uterine fibroid embolization to shrink fibroids
  • Endometrial ablation or removal of the uterine lining
  • Laparoscopic or robotic myomectomy to remove fibroids
  • Other surgical options

Designated a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, we are focused on offering the most effective diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and providing less invasive treatments for gynecologic conditions through the integration of clinical practice, research and innovation.

"My life is absolutely wonderful following this treatment."
