High-risk Pregnancies

Every woman hopes for a trouble-free pregnancy, but Baptist Health is here to help when problems occur. Within the Baptist Health system, women have access to specially-trained staff who care for high-risk expectant mothers with conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, pre-eclampsia and preterm labor. Equipped with the latest technology, this specialized department provides 24/7 monitoring to protect the health and safety of moms and their unborn babies.

Working under the direction of a maternal-fetal specialist, the team conducts ultrasound-guided procedures to correct anemia, performs chromosome testing, conducts fetal blood transfusions to correct Rh incompatibility and treat fetal bladder obstructions or lung problems – all while the baby is in its mother’s womb.

Baptist Health also provides specialized medical care for premature or ill newborns at Level II and III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) in certain facilities. Infants born at hospitals without a NICU who need those services are transferred, via neonatal transport, to the nearest NICU. They are accompanied by a team of neonatal specialists.
