Progressive Care Unit

Healing is a process. In cases when a patient does not need intensive care, but requires a higher level of care and observation than what is provided on general nursing units, a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a good solution. “Progressive Care Unit” is a general term; the area may be called a cardiopulmonary care unit or neurological step-down unit, depending on the patient population it serves.

Because PCU patients are less stable and resilient than the general patient population, they benefit from the PCU’s enhanced monitoring and nurses with advanced training. Families appreciate the extended visiting hours and closer tracking of a patient’s progress that the PCU provides. These factors play an important role in aiding the patient’s recovery.
