Neonatal

Premature babies or infants with special needs are in good hands at Baptist Health. Our specialized neonatal services include two Level II and two Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Each of these units are staffed with neonatologists and neonatal nurses 24 hours a day. Other skilled pediatric specialists are also available to assist in the NICU whenever needed.

The NICU team cares for babies with various conditions, including extreme prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, perinatal asphyxia, persistent pulmonary hypertension and sepsis. In addition, our Neonatal Transport Service team stands ready 24/7 to transport infants from other medical facilities to the NICUs at Baptist or South Miami Hospitals. A highly skilled neonatal medical team accompanies each infant, by ground or air. After leaving the hospital, all at-risk NICU patients receive follow-up care at South Miami Hospital’s Child Development Center.
