Mammography plays a major role in detecting breast cancer when it’s still small enough to be easily treated. That’s why the American College of Radiology recommends that women over age 40 get a mammogram once a year.
Digital mammography, which uses the most advanced technology, is available at diagnostic centers across Baptist Health. Studies have shown that digital mammography is significantly better than conventional mammography at detecting breast cancer in women under 50, premenopausal and perimenopausal women, and women with dense breasts.
If a mammogram looks suspicious, our doctors perform minimally invasive core biopsies which require just a tiny incision, at Baptist Health Breast Center. We also perform ultrasound studies for breast cancer.
