Mammography plays a major role in detecting breast cancer when it’s still small enough to be easily treated. That’s why the American College of Radiology recommends that women over age 40 get a mammogram once a year.
3-D mammography, which uses the most advanced technology, is available at diagnostic centers across Baptist Health. Studies have shown that 3-D mammography is significantly better than conventional mammography at detecting breast cancer in women under 50, premenopausal and perimenopausal women, and women with dense breasts.
If a mammogram looks suspicious, our doctors perform minimally invasive core biopsies which require just a tiny incision, at Miami Cancer Institute in Miami-Dade, or at Baptist Health Medical Plaza | Davie in Broward. We also perform ultrasound studies for breast cancer.
