Hyperbaric Services

The air we breathe normally contains 21 percent oxygen. Patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy breathe 100 percent pure oxygen in a pressurized clear chamber. This process greatly increases the levels of oxygen in the patient’s bloodstream. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy speeds healing, helps fight infection, eliminates toxic substances and provides numerous other health benefits.

Used alone, or in combination with other treatments, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is effective in treating many medical conditions, including:

  • Actinomycosis
  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
  • Advanced diabetic ulcer
  • Adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen in intracranial abscess
  • Arterial gas embolism
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation
  • Chronic Refractory Osteomyelitis
  • Chronic wounds
  • Compartment Syndrome, Crushing Syndrome and other traumatic ischemias
  • Decompression sickness
  • Exceptional blood loss and anemia
  • Gas gangrene
  • Problem skin grafts and flaps
  • Progressive necrotizing infections
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Thermal burns

  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy takes place in a large cylinder-shaped chamber with clear viewports and enough room to sit or stand. Patients may sleep, relax, read, watch television or talk with the hyperbaric technician during the therapy session. Baptist Health South Florida offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy at certain locations.
