Information for Referring Physicians

Our approach to caring for our patients and their families is built on both experience and the latest research. For nearly 40 years, we’ve helped patients and families suffering from the effects of substance abuse, alcohol and drug addiction recover their lives. The oldest hospital owned and managed treatment program in South Florida, the Center is one of the most respected in the country.

Making a Referral
Physicians and mental health providers, alumni, loved ones and friends often make referrals to our Center.
We appreciate your trust and confidence in our team and services, and are committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate care with honesty and integrity.

If you are considering making a referral, please take a moment to review Why Choose Us. If you would like more information about our Center, please explore our website. If you have additional questions, call us at 1-800-YES-HOPE or 786-662-8118.

Physicians and Mental Health Providers
We believe it is critical to maintain communication with family physicians and therapists, who are part of our patient’s treatment team. Prescription medications and physical and mental health conditions are lifelong concerns for our patients attempting to maintain a healthy lifestyle in recovery. Coordination is key in helping our patients continue to thrive.

Because addiction is a brain disease, at South Miami Hospital Care & Counseling Services, our approach is medically driven to treat both the body and mind.  Individuals with chronic and relapsing diseases like diabetes, heart disease and addiction, require a coordinated combination of intensive treatments that restore and support physical and mental health  -- all guided by medical care that is sound, advanced and compassionate.  We not only treat the destructive effects of the disease, we treat the whole patient. We provide our patients and their families with the most effective tools for sustained recovery.

The cost of treatment at South Miami Hospital Care & Counseling Services is covered at varying levels by many commercial insurance companies or their subsidiaries.

However, because coverage varies from company to company and even within plans, our financial coordinators will help you by calling your plan provider to determine your benefits. We also recommend that you speak with your insurance agent or a representative of your Employee Assistance Program to better understand your benefits.

Treatment Costs and Diagnostic Assessment
It is important to note that the cost of your specific treatment cannot be determined without a diagnostic assessment, which includes a prescribed strategy determined by the treatment team. Please call us at 1-800-YES-HOPE or 786-662-8118 to schedule an appointment for a diagnostic assessment, which we offer at no cost.

A diagnostic assessment includes physical and psychological evaluations and recent behavioral, personal and professional challenges. The assessment, which takes two to three hours to complete, will provide a picture of the severity of the problem.

Once a diagnostic assessment has been completed, and a treatment strategy prescribed, a financial coordinator will work with you and your insurance provider to determine benefits and out-of-pocket costs.

Please note that payment is due at the time of admission. If your insurance company does not cover the total cost of your treatment, or if you are paying for all treatment costs out of pocket, please call one of our financial coordinators prior to your arrival to determine the amount due at admission and discuss payment options. Please remember to bring your insurance card, driver’s license and a form of payment with you.

Medicare does not cover the cost of Intensive Outpatient Treatment services.

Our mission is hope for our patients and all people experiencing the disease of addiction. When neither adequate funds or insurance are available, we do our best to help people find other treatment options.

Recovery starts here.
