Many types of cancer may be effectively treated with a specialized, non-surgical technique known as chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs work by destroying cancer cells.

In most cases, chemotherapy is administered intravenously (IV) by a highly-trained cancer specialist. When administered intravenously, a thin tube (catheter) is inserted through the skin and guided through blood vessels to reach the tumor. The medication travels through the catheter to the tumor to destroy it.

Our team at Miami Cancer Institute will also help you understand what to expect from chemotherapy. We will guide you through feelings of uncertainty and anxiety with patience and compassion. We will provide support through your side effects and emotions, so you can feel more confident and in control of your diagnostic and treatment.
