S. Lawrence Kahn III
S. Lawrence Kahn III chairs the founding Board of Directors of Miami Cancer Institute and, as a member of its design committee, played an instrumental role in helping to ensure that the look and feel of the Institute would meet the needs of its patients. He is president and founder of Lowell Homes, a Coral Gables, Fla.-based residential construction firm. Mr. Kahn is a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Baptist Hospital and Baptist Health Medical Group.
Mr. Kahn graduated from Amherst College and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
He served as a U.S. Navy lieutenant in Japan and Vietnam. He is a trustee emeritus at Florida International University and a past member of the FIU Foundation. He is on the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce board of governors and the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless board of directors. Mr. Kahn also has headed or served on the boards of the Builders Association of South Florida, WPBT-Channel 2, Miami Downtown Development Authority, South Dade Chamber of Commerce and Brickell Area Association
Phil Conway, secretary of Miami Cancer Institute's Board of Directors, is managing director and U.S. southeast region head of J.P. Morgan Private Bank. He oversees the firm's private banking business throughout the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico and served as its head of capital advisory for the United States and Europe.
Mr. Conway serves on Baptist Health Medical Group's Board of Directors, as well as the Baptist Health Community Benefit Committee. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., and holds an MBA from Louisiana State University. Mr. Conway serves on the boards of the Perez Art Museum Miami, Houston Salvation Army (past chairman), University of Texas Health Science Center (past chairman), United Way of Dallas, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Richardson YMCA, North Texas Commission and the Southwest Louisiana March of Dimes.
Ron Shuffield, treasurer of Miami Cancer Institute, also serves as vice chair of the boards of Baptist Health Enterprises and Baptist Health Outpatient Services, secretary of the Doctors Hospital Board of Directors and a member of the Baptist Health Board of Trustees. He sits on the Baptist Health Long-range Planning and Facilities committees, as well as the executive committees for Baptist Health Enterprises, Baptist Outpatient Services and Doctors Hospital.
Mr. Shuffield is president of EWM Realty International, a real estate brokerage firm. He sits on the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce board of directors, is a founding board member of the Beacon Council, a member of the Coral Gables Rotary Club and past chairman of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and Coral Gables Community Foundation. He is the recipient of the Robert B. Knight Outstanding Citizen Award, and the Florida Council on Economic Education inducted Mr. Shuffield into the South Florida Business Hall of Fame in 2003.
Currently, he is on the board of directors of Florida International University Foundation, and since 1976 has been a member of University Baptist Church of Coral Gables, where he is a past chairman of deacons.
