Emergency Services

During a health emergency, every second counts. For area residents, West Kendall Baptist Hospital’s location provides convenient state of the art emergency care.  Staffed 24/7/365 by physicians specializing in emergency medicine. The ED has consistently exceeded patient-volume projections since the hospital’s opening in April 2011, while providing patient and family satisfaction rates above the 95th percentile.

The Emergency Department’s 34 private examination rooms include two trauma rooms as well as isolation and decontamination areas. The department has earned Heart Failure certification and is also certified as a Primary Stroke Center.

Pediatric Emergencies
Six dedicated pediatric exam rooms provide a warm and welcoming environment for children. Pediatric specialty-trained Emergency Department physicians and nurses are on duty around the clock and a child life specialist is on duty during peak hours.

Stroke Emergencies
West Kendall Baptist Hospital is one of only nine hospitals in Miami-Dade County to earn certification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration. Neurosurgical expertise is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Our neurologists and neurosurgeons follow the latest protocols for emergency care of patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, including stabilization of vital functions, initial diagnostic tests, surgery and use of medication.

An innovative stroke telemedicine program, Telestroke, provides patients comprehensive stroke care and immediate 24-hour access to highly trained stroke neurologists at Miami Neuroscience Institute. Telestroke is implemented when a patient arrives at the Emergency Department with stroke symptoms and a neurologist is not on site. Using telestroke system carts and a two-way live video, audio and diagnostic image-sharing system, consulting stroke neurologists from the Neuroscience Institute can evaluate our patients in real time to diagnose a stroke and determine the best course of action.
