Surgical Services

Each year, more than 13,000 people from South Miami and around the world come to South Miami Hospital for surgery. This means that our
surgeons, nurses and support staff are highly experienced and up-to-date on the latest surgical techniques and procedures.

Nearly every type of surgery is offered at South Miami Hospital, including general, cardiac, gynecological, urological, neurological, vascular, bariatric, ophthalmological, orthopedic, podiatric and cosmetic/reconstructive procedures.

In December 2012, a new Surgical Suites opened at South Miami Hospital. Part of an $80 million expansion and renovation project to enhance the hospital’s ability to serve patients, the new Surgical Suites facility houses 16 large operating rooms equipped with the latest equipment and technology to support advanced surgical procedures, including thousands of robotic-assisted surgeries performed each year at the Center for Robotic Surgery at South Miami Hospital.

The Center’s robotic systems enable surgeons to virtually extend their eyes and hands into patients’ bodies, helping to make complex operations more precise and less traumatic. Several surgeons at The Center for Robotic Surgery at South Miami Hospital are considered pioneers in the robotic surgery industry.
