Burn Center

When a burn occurs, care is needed quickly. The Burn Center at South Miami Hospital provides our community with both immediate care through our Emergency Department and follow-up care in our outpatient facility. The Center provides a comprehensive approach to burn care that includes an expert team of plastic surgeons, hospitalists, Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) certified nurses, dietitians, social workers and physical and occupational therapists that deliver high-quality care to each patient.

The Burn Center has dedicated inpatient beds and is staffed and equipped to provide treatment to patients beginning at age 18 who are experiencing burns of up to 25 percent of the Total Body Surface Area (TBSA).

Whether a patient requires admission or outpatien​t follow-up care, the burn team will provide a comprehensive approach to care involving a multidisciplinary team of healthcare givers. The team also will assist in providing resources that are crucial for recovery such as rehabilitation, homecare services and follow-up appointments.

  • By using the latest techniques available, the healthcare staff is able to help decrease healing time, manage pain, reduce the risk of infections associated with burns and optimize recovery time, while providing the best aesthetic result possible. Our treatment plans include the use of skin replacement technology combined with innovative products to minimize the need for skin grafting procedures. Life support certified team members, monitor and follow our patients until the last wound has completely healed.
