Pastoral Care Services

The Pastoral Care staff at Doctors Hospital provides spiritual and emotional support to assist in the healing and recovery process. Our Pastoral Care Department helps patients, their families and the hospital staff in difficult times and celebrates with them during significant life events.

We realize a hospital stay can be a very challenging time for patients and their families. We’re here for you when you need us. Our hospital chapel, located on the second floor, near the Pastoral Care Office, is open 24 hours a day for prayer, meditation and worship. Also, an on-call hospital chaplain is available outside of regular office hours.

Our pastoral care staff works with people of any faith and offers interfaith and faith-specific services as needed, as well as regular prayer services. For Catholic patients, volunteer Eucharistic ministers can visit almost daily and Catholic Mass is held twice a month. A schedule of all hospital church services is posted outside the chapel door.

Knowing when to contact a hospital chaplain is an individual and personal choice, but these times might include:

  • When you feel the need to draw strength from your spiritual roots.
  • When you would like to explore the meaning of your current health challenge.
  • When you need support in time of crisis or loss, or anytime you are in need of spiritual and emotional support.
  • When you need a sacrament of baptism, anointing, communion, etc.
  • When you want to clarify your values regarding healthcare decisions.
  • When you would like us to contact your faith community.
  • When you would like someone to pray with you or to listen and be with you.
If we may be of assistance, please call us at Ext. 83800, or 786-308-3800 when calling from outside the hospital. You may also ask your nurse to contact a chaplain for you.
