Palliative Care

Our palliative care specialists strive to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for patients and their families throughout their stay at Doctors Hospital.

We help following the diagnosis of a life-threatening condition, complex medical problem or chronic health challenge. Our palliative care team of physicians, nurses, social workers and chaplains plays an integral role in the high-quality, compassionate care at Doctors Hospital.

We provide patient-centered and family-centered palliative hospital care. We can simplify some complex medical choices and help people understand the risks and benefits of different treatment options and end-of-life decisions. We develop an individual, culturally sensitive palliative care plan and coordinate medical care as needed. Although a big part of palliative care is providing relief from pain, we also manage pain, as well as nausea, constipation, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite or any sleep problems.

Our social workers and chaplains help families, too. We recognize that family members may struggle or be in denial about their loved one’s condition and can benefit from counseling at this challenging time. Many patients and families also benefit from spiritual services. Our hospital chaplain connects people with a spiritual representative and arranges hospital visits. Spiritual support is optional; we also respect patients and families who express no need for these services.

Our specially trained and credentialed palliative care experts see and support patients and families at all stages, whether the focus is curative or end-of-life care.
